Branching out
I have been loading .40 for many years, but rescently recieved a brand new STI GP6 from one of my sponsors, Sam Conway at American Shooters Edge in GA. The GP6 is STI's first leap into production division. It is only avalible in 9mm so the old Sarge had to convert the press and learn to load 9mm. Compaired to .40 it seems to be easier on the arm, but finiky about brass and primers. The GP6 shoots factory ammo great, but being the gamer that I am I have to try my own recipe so I can eliminate as much recoil as possible. So I made a trip to the gun show and stocked up on 9mm bullets, bought a conversion kit, developed a load and chronographed my new load. Hit the power factor right on the head and shot a 1 inch group at 15 yards. I will be off to try the new load out at the local match in Raleigh next weekend. I shot one match with the GP6 and factory ammo 3 days after Sam sent me the gun. I finished 4th eventhough I had not shot production since 2003. I can't wait to see how much better I shoot with my loads and a few of the minor modifications I have made to the GP6.
