A Day at the range with the boys

Saturday was a great day to go shooting. This was the first match that both boys went with me. The boys and I got up and drove up to our local club for a small match to get me ready for the USPSA Area 8 match next week end. Well we arrived early and signed up firts on Squad 5 then proceeded to suit me up with all my gear and load my mags up. We walked around and looked at the 5 stages and I fielded what seemed like 1,000 questions from Todd. Once game time arrived we reported to the shooters meeting where they announced squad assignments and to my supprise, I was squadded with not 1, not 2, but 3 national champions. This would be like going to your local golf course and playing with Tiger Woods, and Arnold Palmer. The rest of the squad were all very accomplished shooters as well. I know all of these shooters from my years of traveling with the team and shooting all over the world but have never shot with this much tallent in my squad. One of the shooters was muti National and World champion Todd Jarrett. Now Little Todd was in awe of Todd Jarrett since he has seen him shooting on TV and in my vids. THen he realized that he has the same initiles. He spent the day picking up brass and pasting targets for us. I believe he would hav stayed out there all day. We finished up just in time before the rain hit. I have always heard that you shoot to the level of your squad mates and NOW I believe it! I shot the best match in a very long time and won my class finishing 2nd over all only missing the MATCH win by .1945 points! So close but so far! These pictures and vids show the fun! I was sporting a new shooting shirt with all my sponsors porudly displayed for all to see. Thansk again to Sam at American Shooters Edge and Rick at A-TAC, you guys are great!

A brothers pride

These pictures are of Sarge's big brother living his dream and doing a fine job at it. His University Of Tampa lady Spartans have won the Confrence regular season championship, the Confrence tournament and are doing well in the NCAA tournament. This year has been one if his best yet and I bet that it is just going to get better. Many years ago our dad told Tom that he would never be able to eat that basketball, well now we know that was dads way of challenging him to prove him wrong. Tom dedicated his life, hart, soul, blood and sweat to coaching since that day and has became a very successful college coach. I am proud of Tom for working so hard and making his mark on the world. Like Tom, I too was challenged by dad and we have lived up to those challenge, I just wish dad could be hear with us to enjoy the success that he pushed us to achieve. Your sons love, miss and thank you dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarge's other hobby

In addition to shooting I also enjoy trout fishing. Like shooting this is a hobby passed down to me by my dear departed dad. He was the KING of trout fishing and tought me everything I know. I am in turn passing this family tradition down to my boys. We are looking forward to spring so we can take our first trip to our favorite stream. Not only is it great family time it is wonderful stress relief.

Sarge's new Production toy

I just wanted to share a few pictures of my new production division toy courtesy of Sam Conway at American Shooters Edge. This is STI's new GP6 and man is it a sweet shooting gun. The mag pouches are courtesy of Rick Amos of A-TAC. Ricks gear and Sams pistol are one great team. I am working with a machinest on some sights and other tricks of the trade to boost my performance on the range. I will post more as the development proceeds.

Branching out

I have been loading .40 for many years, but rescently recieved a brand new STI GP6 from one of my sponsors, Sam Conway at American Shooters Edge in GA. The GP6 is STI's first leap into production division. It is only avalible in 9mm so the old Sarge had to convert the press and learn to load 9mm. Compaired to .40 it seems to be easier on the arm, but finiky about brass and primers. The GP6 shoots factory ammo great, but being the gamer that I am I have to try my own recipe so I can eliminate as much recoil as possible. So I made a trip to the gun show and stocked up on 9mm bullets, bought a conversion kit, developed a load and chronographed my new load. Hit the power factor right on the head and shot a 1 inch group at 15 yards. I will be off to try the new load out at the local match in Raleigh next weekend. I shot one match with the GP6 and factory ammo 3 days after Sam sent me the gun. I finished 4th eventhough I had not shot production since 2003. I can't wait to see how much better I shoot with my loads and a few of the minor modifications I have made to the GP6.
